Several celebrations are scheduled to take place in the Tampa Bay region in the coming days, marking the arrival of Juneteenth, a holiday of great historical significance for the black community in the United States. The area is preparing a series of events to celebrate the date.
Juneteenth, officially recognized as a federal holiday, dates back to June 19, 1865. It was on this occasion that the last enslaved individuals in Texas learned of their emancipation, two and a half years after Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, symbolizing freedom and the end of slavery in the country.
Community Run and Walk Celebrate Freedom in Tampa
An opportunity for physical activity and awareness is available with the Juneteenth 5K Community Walk/Run taking place in Tampa. Participants begin the journey in Lowry Park, following a picturesque route along the banks of the Hillsborough River.
The race is scheduled for Sunday at 9:15 am at Lowry Park. Participation is free, and registration can be done in advance via the official website.
Diverse Roc the Block Juneteenth schedule at Raymond James Stadium
The non-profit organization Roc the Block, active in the local community, will promote several meetings this week at Raymond James Stadium. Activities culminate with the annual Juneteenth festival on Saturday. It is possible to guarantee participation through online registration.

Game night takes place on Friday from 8pm to 11pm at Culture Creative, located at 2108 34th St. S. Interested parties should RSVP online. Additionally, Culture Creative will also host a Juneteenth-themed poetry recital, starting at 8pm on Saturday, with tickets available for purchase.
Jumpin’ Juneteenth Jubilee Celebration Highlights Black Arts and Culture in St. Pete
A vibrant event in St. Pete, Jumpin’ Juneteenth Jubilee invites audiences to dance to live music, browse wares from local vendors and honor artists of color. The initiative is promoted by Queer Expression St. Pete.
The party takes place on Friday, from 6pm to 9pm, at the E2K Vintage space. Confirmation of presence can be done online.
Graduation dinner and fish fry at Ridgecrest honor Juneteenth
The Ridgecrest community is preparing a special Juneteenth celebration that will include a graduation and fish fry dinner. The theme chosen for this year is “Honoring the Past, Serving the Present and Inspiring the Future”.
On Saturday, the graduate procession begins at 10 a.m., followed by the fish fry dinner, which will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the YMCA’s Greater Ridgecrest Unit.
Barbecue with black entrepreneurs market shakes up Juneteenth in St. Pete
A lively barbecue is planned for the Juneteenth Backyard Party in St. Pete, hosted by Saturday Shoppes. The event will feature barbecue grills and food trucks, as well as a market with black-owned businesses, and a variety of activities dedicated to children.
The celebration takes place on Friday, from 4pm to 10pm, at Deuces Corner Park.
Night of partying and varied rhythms at the Juneteenth Turn-Up in Tampa
For those looking for a night of partying, the Juneteenth Turn-Up in Tampa promises lots of music with DJs Quarius and Real1Krash. The repertoire will include a fusion of rhythms such as afrobeat, house, hip-hop and other musical genres.
The party takes place on Saturday, starting at 9pm, at the Marti Maceo Cuban Club. Tickets are available for purchase starting at $20.
