Authorities have arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder following a serious incident in which a three-year-old child fell into a crocodile cage at a zoological park. The event took place this Thursday, in central England, resulting in serious injuries to the boy.

Police teams from the Cambridgeshire region were mobilized immediately after receiving calls about a serious incident at the Johnsons of Old Hurst premises. Reports indicated the presence of the child inside the reptile space.

The minor was promptly taken to a hospital, where his clinical condition was classified as serious, but stable. Attacks involving crocodiles in zoo environments in the UK are extremely uncommon, underlining the seriousness and exceptional nature of this incident.

Inspector Verity McCann, in charge of the investigation, stated that several interviews were being carried out with witnesses present at the zoo at the time of the incident. The objective is to clarify the complete circumstances of the incident that caused great commotion.

McCann also highlighted that preliminary evidence points to the absence of any prior connection between the detained man and the child involved in the serious incident.

In an official statement, management at Johnsons of Old Hurst confirmed that the area where the crocodile attacked the boy will remain closed. The ban is for an indefinite period of time, as a sign of respect and solidarity with the victim’s family.
