A serious accident took the life of a CSN worker this Sunday morning (21). The collision, involving a water tanker and a pickup truck, occurred at the Casa de Pedra mine, located in Congonhas, in the Central Region of Minas Gerais. The incident highlights the safety challenges in mining environments, where heavy vehicle traffic is constant.
As determined by the Fire Department, the heavy vehicle, a water tanker with an impressive capacity for 50 thousand liters of water, lost control of the brakes. Out of control, he collided violently with the truck, resulting in the complete destruction of the smaller car.
The Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) confirmed the identity of the victim: Herman Bittencourt Baeta, a 50-year-old production technician. Through an official statement, the company regretted what happened, highlighting that “all measures for relief and assistance were taken immediately”, but that, despite efforts, “the employee did not resist”.
In the same note, CSN expressed deep regret and solidarity with the victim’s family, friends and co-workers. The company assured that “it is providing all necessary assistance to the family” in this period of grief and pain.
After the rescue work, Herman Bittencourt Baeta’s body was extricated from the wreckage by firefighters. It was subsequently forwarded to the Civil Police for forensic examination, which will continue the investigations to clarify the causes of the accident.
