New evidence has emerged in the case of the mysterious ambush set up on the A281 highway, leading police to direct their investigation to a specific vehicle. After months of analyzing images, checking heavy vehicles and witness statements, authorities in Bremen are now focusing their efforts on locating a suspicious blue truck.

The crime scene showed a dark semi-trailer across the middle of the expressway. In complete darkness, devoid of warning lights and without load, the obstacle was almost imperceptible. Those crucial moments could have resulted in fatalities. Almost six months after the high-profile incident on the A281, Bremen police released an image of a truck that, according to investigations, was used to transport the semi-trailer. The case is being treated as attempted murder by authorities.

Charge of attempted murder on highway

To investigate what happened, a specialized task force, named “EG Strom”, was established. The alarming event took place on January 24, at around 2:10 am, on the A281, in the direction of the A27, specifically between the Strom and Seehausen approaches. At the scene, the police found an empty black semi-trailer positioned in such a way as to completely block both lanes of traffic and the shoulder, making the highway impassable. A crucial factor that amplified the danger was the difficulty of seeing the empty semi-trailer in the darkness, making it a true death trap.

Several drivers were forced to stop suddenly to avoid colliding with the blockade. According to the investigators’ reports, one of the truck drivers only managed to spot the trailer on the track at the last moment. The immediate emergency braking action was what prevented a tragedy. Bastian Demann, police spokesman, told BILD newspaper that “due to the extremely dangerous nature of the action and the way in which the vehicle was positioned, the incident had the potential to be fatal.”

Search focuses on blue MAN truck

Investigative teams conducted extensive interviews with numerous witnesses, examined thousands of trucks and analyzed a vast amount of video recordings. Recently, a decisive clue came to light, allowing investigators to identify the vehicle that apparently transported the semi-trailer during the night of the incident.

The police are now actively searching for a three-axle MAN TGX truck with a blue cabin and unpainted gray bumper. Recent information indicates that the semi-trailer that caused the blockage had previously been stolen from a distribution center located in the Merkurstraße area.

The investigating authorities request the public’s collaboration. Any individual who noticed suspicious activity on the night of January 24, or who has relevant information about the sought-after tractor, or those potentially involved in the crime, should contact the Criminal Investigation Department’s 24-hour hotline or use the anonymous reporting portal provided by the police.
