Comedian Waldemar Neto Lobo Melo do Carmo, better known as Seu Waldemar, was arrested last Tuesday (23) in Pedro Juan Caballero, a Paraguayan city located on the border with Brazil. After his arrest by the security forces of the neighboring country, he will be expelled and later handed over to the Brazilian Federal Police. He will then be in the custody of the Civil Police of Ponta Porã, in Mato Grosso do Sul.
There was an open arrest warrant against Waldemar since November 2025, issued due to non-payment of child support. The former presenter was living in Paraguay to dedicate himself to his medical course. In January of this year, lawyer Flávia Aragão, legal representative of the child’s mother, reported that the value of the accumulated debt was approximately R$20,621.00. It is important to highlight that, in Brazil, late payments of pensions can result in civil arrest, which is the basis for the expulsion process so that the court order can be complied with.
The comedian’s defense, articulated by lawyer Rumennigge Pires Dietz, explained that Waldemar was facing serious financial difficulties. These problems arose after he left his role as a presenter, which made it impossible for him to maintain his monthly pension payments, estimated at around R$2,000, in addition to other expenses related to his son.
Details of the comedian’s academic life in Paraguay
During the period in which the arrest warrant was active, Seu Waldemar used his social media platforms to share aspects of his journey as a student at Universidad Sudamericana, in Paraguay. He frequently published videos that showed his preparation for the tests and offered advice for those who intended to study medicine outside Brazil.
In an interview given at the beginning of 2026, Sami Moura, the child’s mother, stated that the comedian was only looking for his son to take him to his paternal grandmother’s house, indicating a limited presence in his upbringing and daily life.
However, Waldemar’s legal team argued that the separation between father and son occurred for family reasons. The defense assured, however, that both kept in touch weekly, seeking to maintain closeness.
“They had been in contact for some time, Waldemar spoke to his son every week. So, this rapprochement was happening,” declared the defense.
