Google Health 5.02: New statistics view improves hourly activity tracking and essential metrics
The Google Health app, available for Android and iOS devices, has received a new update, version 5.02, which introduces several significant improvements and bug fixes. The main focus is on improving user experience and accuracy in monitoring health data.
The rollout of Google Health 5.02 for Android devices was intensified this week, bringing the ability to display up to twelve statistics in an expanded view, accessible via a specific icon. Furthermore, the update resolved a flaw in the hydration record, which now records volumes of 8, 16 and 24 fl oz with greater accuracy, optimizing control of liquid consumption by users.
Since the previous week, on June 18, the updated version had already been released comprehensively for the iOS operating system, while its arrival on Android occurred gradually.
The new features and changes cover six main areas of the application, aiming for a more intuitive and complete management of health information.
New features implemented in the main Today tab
Improved visualization of essential metrics: Users can now expand the central data panel in the Today tab, allowing quick access to more information without the need to navigate to other sections or swipe the screen. A simple tap on the pencil icon and choosing the “Expanded view” option reveals additional data, making it easier to follow.
Ease of organizing metrics in the Today tab: Reordering metrics displayed in the Today section has been simplified. In edit mode, accessed by the pencil icon, simply tap a metric and select which other metric you want to replace in its place to make the change.
Relevant changes to the Health tab
Simplified reorganization of key metrics for Android users: Changing the order of metrics in the ‘Key Metrics’ section of the Health tab has been improved, specifically for Android OS version 5.02. You can now drag and drop charts to rearrange them. Simply select ‘Customize’, press and hold the desired graphic and move it to the desired position. This functionality will arrive on iOS in the next update, version 5.03.
Advances in sleep monitoring
Improved restlessness detection during rest: The restlessness bar is now positioned closer to the sleep stage graph, allowing for a more integrated analysis of restlessness and time awake data. There have also been improvements in identifying brief periods of wakefulness, and further optimizations are planned.
Nap management available for Android: It’s now easier to locate and track naps over time. The app presents these records in separate tabs in users’ daily sleep scores, a feature initially exclusive to Android. This option is expected to be released for iOS in version 5.03.
Full sleep session deletion feature: Removing records of previous sleep sessions is now fully supported, giving users complete control over their data.
Troubleshooting sleep session editing: An issue that prevented some users from modifying their sleep logs has been fixed in this update, ensuring full editing functionality.

News in fitness and activity tracking
Return of Hourly Activity Tracking: The hourly activity viewing functionality has been re-enabled, allowing users to view graphs of their hourly step goals in the Today and Health tabs. To add this feature to dashboards, simply use the pencil icon under Today or select “Customize” under Health.
Stability adjustments and improvements: Several issues related to exercise summaries have been fixed, including issues such as “0” being displayed for steps and distance for certain manually recorded activities, and incorrect recording of low distances for automatically detected bike routes (it is worth noting that distance recording for automatically detected bike routes is not yet officially supported).
Important updates in the nutritional area
Optimization when searching for registered foods: The speed of food search results has been significantly improved for both Android and iOS users. On the Android system, the results now directly display information about portions and calories, speeding up recording. This functionality for iOS will be introduced soon.
Macronutrient estimation during registration: Macronutrient estimates are now visible on the main food registration screen, allowing users to consult them before finalizing their meal entry.
Update to the Today tab’s Nutrition dashboard: The Today tab’s Nutrition dashboard has been redesigned to display total calorie intake (at the top) and calories remaining for the day (at the bottom), replacing the previous metrics that focused only on liquid calories. This offers a clearer view of daily consumption.
Efficient management of partner application records
Direct deletion of data from other platforms: You can now remove individual workout sessions, food records, and synced weight data from other apps directly through Google Health, eliminating the need to access the Privacy Center. To do this, simply tap the desired session or record and then tap the three-dot icon or the trash can icon.
Process for Health Connect or Apple Health data: If the session or record was imported via Health Connect or Apple Health, the user will be directed to the respective platform to complete the deletion. Importantly, this action will also remove the registration from the originating platform.
Direct deletion for specific integrations: If the session or record was imported through a direct integration, the deletion can be completed directly within Google Health without additional steps.
Future improvements to data deletion from Health Connect and Apple Health: The Google Health app will soon allow you to delete sessions or records originating from Health Connect or Apple Health without requiring the data to be removed from those platforms as well, making record management even easier.
