Public servants in the state and municipality were awarded an optional position for next Monday. The decision comes after the Brazilian team secured its place in the next phase of the World Cup, which takes place in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The team will enter the field at 2pm on Thursday, awaiting the definition of the opponent. The measure, however, does not extend to sectors considered essential, such as health units. The initiative reflects a recurring practice in major national sporting events, seeking to align the fervor of the fans with the guarantee of crucial services to the population.
The text of the decree signed by Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere, published in the municipality’s Official Gazette this Thursday, establishes that June 29, 2026 will be an optional day for municipal public offices. This decision was taken due to the Brazilian Football Team’s clash in the 2026 World Cup, excluding the activities of sectors that cannot be interrupted.
The same decree, in its second article, informs that the Municipal Health Department (SMS) will be responsible for issuing a resolution detailing the functioning of the units in its network.
In a post on social media, made after Wednesday’s game, the mayor used an image of Vini Jr, highlighted with two goals in the Brazilian team’s victory over Scotland. In the post, he said that, in line with the acting governor, judge Ricardo Couto, the official municipal and state diaries this Thursday would bring the decrees that formalize the optional point at the municipal and state levels for next Monday, the day of the subsequent match.
State employees will also have a day off
Judge Ricardo Couto, who serves as governor, also issued a decree establishing an optional point for state public administration entities and bodies next Monday. However, as at the municipal level, services considered essential will remain in normal operation.
The state determination was published in the Official Gazette also this Thursday, applying to direct administration bodies, local authorities and public foundations in the state. Hospitals, security forces and other functions vital to serving the population will maintain their activities without interruption.
