Intense cold hits São Paulo with polar mass this Thursday (25); forecast details scenario
The city of São Paulo will face days of mild temperatures and continuous precipitation. This climatic condition is the result of the arrival of a mass of polar air that extends across regions of the South and Southeast, combined with the influence of a frontal system, characterized by the transition of air masses with different humidity and temperatures.
The Climate Emergency Management Center (CGE) of São Paulo City Hall reported that on Thursday (25), the frontal system should cause rain of light to moderate intensity. The forecast indicates a higher incidence of precipitation during the afternoon and evening in the capital.
For Thursday, temperatures in the city will vary between 12°C and 14°C. However, the thermal sensation will be less due to the humid winds coming from the ocean. Relative air humidity is projected to exceed 85%, intensifying the perception of cold.
The weather in the capital and the harsh winter in the south of the country
Friday (26) will maintain climate instability, but with a reduction in the perception of cold due to sunny periods. The expected rainfall will be brief, punctual and with low total volume. Temperatures will fluctuate between 13°C and 20°C, and air humidity will remain high, above 70%, according to CGE projections.
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) confirms that the joint action of the frontal system and the polar mass is mainly responsible for the drop in temperatures in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil.

For the Southeast, atmospheric circulation at medium and high levels plays a crucial role. This dynamic creates favorable conditions for the occurrence of rain on Thursday.
An Inmet report details that “the frontal system is still expected to cause instability mainly in São Paulo and the metropolitan region, north of São Paulo, Vale do Paraíba and the north coast, in addition to the south of Minas, Costa Verde of Rio de Janeiro and the capital of Rio de Janeiro and its metropolitan region”.
On Friday, climate instability will persist in the region. This phenomenon will contribute to the occurrence of intense rains in areas in the interior of São Paulo, in the Ribeira Valley and along the north coast of São Paulo.
The minimum temperature for the next few days in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, should be around 9°C. In contrast, the city of Januário, in the north of Minas Gerais, can record maximum temperatures close to 30°C.
In the south of the country, both on Thursday and Friday, the weather will remain stable, with no significant rain forecast. However, the initial periods of both days bring warning of the formation of frost.
The polar air mass will continue to influence temperatures, keeping them at low levels. The regional minimum, particularly General Carneiro, in Paraná, is expected to remain at around -3°C. On the other hand, the maximum temperatures tend to rise little by little, reaching 21°C on Friday in Umuarama, located in the northwest of Paraná.
