A training session for the Portuguese national team was brought to an abrupt halt this Thursday (25) due to strong thunderstorms in the area of the training center in Palm Beach, Florida.

Amid the threat of lightning, the athletes and the entire technical team were promptly directed to a protected environment, aiming to ensure the safety of everyone present on the field.

Currently in second place in Group K, with four points accumulated, the Portuguese team intensifies its preparation for the decisive clash against leader Colombia, who holds six points, this Saturday (27). The match is crucial, being the last round of the group stage, and a defeat would force Portugal to rely on a stumble from DR Congo, who are in third place with just one point, against Uzbekistan. Florida’s unstable climate, characterized by torrential rain and frequent electrical storms during the summer, adds a layer of challenge to the training routine, requiring constant adaptations from the coaching staff and compromising the ideal continuity of preparation at such a critical time.

This weather interruption represents yet another obstacle for coach Roberto Martínez’s plans. Previously, before the clash against DR Congo, in the opening round, a complete training session had already been cancelled, forcing the delegation to move to a gym and adapt their activities in an indoor space.
