Ancient marks on the body of a bedridden woman suggest that sexual abuse by a pastor may have occurred more than once. Investigative documents reveal that the victim’s granddaughter, during a statement to the Civil Police, reported having detected old injuries while providing daily care to her 91-year-old grandmother in the interior of São Paulo.
Signs of previous violence detected during care
The granddaughter, who works as a nursing technician, recognized the pattern of injuries when observing the elderly woman’s body. In police records, she told investigators that the marks already existed on the victim’s body before the images recorded by the room’s monitoring cameras revealed the crime.
According to the Civil Police, this information reinforces the possibility that the elderly woman suffered multiple episodes of violence. The delegate responsible for the investigation highlighted that the physical marks, combined with camera recordings and other evidence, indicate a possible sequence of abuses perpetrated over time against the woman, who lives in bed and depends on family members for daily care.
The crime discovered by security cameras
Dario da Conceição, a 61-year-old pastor and public servant, was arrested red-handed on June 23rd on charges of raping his mother-in-law. The crime occurred in Registro, located in Vale do Ribeira, when the suspect took advantage of the absence of his wife and son, who were attending a religious service, to commit the abuse.
The residence had monitoring cameras placed by the family to monitor the elderly woman’s routine from a distance. Before committing the crime, Dario had turned off the internet in the house to prevent the system from functioning remotely. However, the equipment continued to record the images in its internal storage.
How the crime was discovered
The victim’s daughter noticed that the system went offline and asked her father to check the equipment. After the connection was reestablished, she accessed the stored recordings and came across images that, according to the investigation, document the sexual abuse committed by the pastor against his mother-in-law.
The images were handed over to the Civil Police and led to the arrest in the act. The court later converted the arrest into preventive detention, keeping the suspect in custody while the investigation progresses.
Contradictory stance of the suspect
When questioned by family members shortly after the crime, Dario denied having committed the abuse and claimed not to remember the events. According to the son’s statement to the Civil Police, the pastor was found lying on the sofa in the residence when the family returned from the religious service and stated that he “did not remember” the events, in addition to denying being the person in the camera images.
At the police station, however, his conduct was different. Dario exercised his constitutional right to silence and informed that he would only provide clarifications before the Court. For the Civil Police, the version presented by the investigator is not sustainable given the evidence accumulated in the process.
