Microsoft is considering suspending the Marvel’s Blade project, developed by Arkane Studios, as part of a comprehensive cost reduction and staffing plan that will affect the Xbox division. The title, originally scheduled to be released this year, has already had its release postponed to the end of 2027 and, according to reports, exceeded the stipulated budget.

The company is exploring the possibility of selling Arkane to avoid its complete closure, although other alternatives are under analysis. As of July 6, the company has planned to lay off employees, and this corporate reorganization could impact more than a thousand positions.

It is important to mention that Marvel’s Blade has not been released since its initial announcement, generating a series of recent questions about its development, despite a member of the Arkane team having assured the project’s continuity. Additionally, Todd Howard, one of Bethesda’s leaders, publicly expressed his appreciation for the game not long ago.

However, there is a high probability that the restructuring led by Asha Sharma’s management at Xbox will result in the end of Arkane’s operations and, consequently, the definitive cancellation of the game. This management move often prioritizes immediate profitability and resource optimization, a common scenario in large technology conglomerates after periods of expansion and acquisitions.

Recently, it was reported that the new Senua game was revealed with the aim of attracting potential buyers to Ninja Theory, another developer that is also under threat of being closed by Microsoft.
