Macabre discovery at a school in Queens, New York, mobilized local police last Tuesday, June 30, with the location of human remains in a chimney. Authorities are working hard to identify the victim and understand the circumstances that led to this tragic occurrence.

The shocking discovery occurred when a maintenance worker, while cleaning the building on Tuesday (30), noticed a strong smell coming from the chimney. Thinking it was a problem with pests, the worker called a technician, who first came across a shoe and, soon after, a foot, confirming the presence of human remains.

Immediately, an investigation was opened. The remains remain in the chimney, awaiting removal and subsequent analysis to determine the identity of the victim and the exact cause of death. Authorities confirmed that no students or school staff were on site at the time of the incident, as summer vacation began the previous Friday. To assist in the search for information, all technicians and their families will be interviewed to verify possible disappearances.

Department for Education calls discovery deeply worrying

“The identification of this finding is deeply disturbing and demands attention, and we are ensuring that all necessary support is provided to the entire school community during the investigation conducted by the New York Police Department,” the Department of Education stated in an official statement. The statement reinforces that no students were present, as the building is closed for renovations during the summer vacation period.
