The body of a 39-year-old worker, originally from Saxony, was located in the Allgäu Alps after he disappeared while on a mountain trail. The man was an employee of a local refuge and had gone for a day hike last Saturday, starting from a base near Oberstdorf in the Oberallgäu district. The aim was to cross the challenging Biberkopf mountain to the Rappensee refuge and then return.
When the employee did not return until late Saturday afternoon, the owner of the shelter where he worked reported him missing to the authorities. Biberkopf mountain, known for its rugged terrain and significant elevation, requires preparation from climbers and presents risks on its slopes.

Rescue teams began searching for the missing climber, which continued throughout Saturday night and throughout Sunday, but were unsuccessful in locating him initially. A helicopter was mobilized to assist in sweeping the area, given the complexity of the terrain.
The man was finally found on the northern slope of the Biberkopf mountain, which reaches approximately 2,600 meters in altitude. The discovery site was located close to the border with Austria, in a region that was difficult to access.

The first information from the police indicates that the worker had suffered a fall from a steep and predominantly rocky slope. This type of terrain is one of the most dangerous for hikers and mountain climbers, due to the instability and difficulty in moving around.
The recovery of the body was only possible with the intervention of a police helicopter, which carried out the recovery under challenging conditions. The police’s Alpine unit continues investigations to determine the exact cause and circumstances that led to the employee’s death.
