A recent initiative by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) now offers the ability to change the email address associated with Aadhaar completely free of charge. The new feature allows users to carry out the procedure through the new official application, eliminating the need to go to a physical service point.

The service, accessible exclusively through the Aadhaar application, will have a validity period of six months, starting on July 1, 2026. The measure aims to significantly simplify the process so that Indian citizens can keep their registration data always up to date.

UIDAI has implemented a crucial functionality that allows individuals to enter or correct their email addresses directly through the Aadhaar mobile platform. This new tool represents an advance in reducing bureaucracy, as it eliminates the need for a face-to-face visit to dedicated service centers.

Receptivity to this innovation was immediate: in the first two days since its availability, the new service recorded more than 250,000 email address updates. The numbers reflect the high demand for digital solutions and the efficiency of the platform.

Connecting the email to the Aadhaar number is essential for the security of personal data. By linking their email address, users receive instant alerts each time an Aadhaar authentication is performed, offering unprecedented visibility into the use of their digital identity. This measure not only guarantees greater transparency, but adds a robust layer of protection to a system that already serves billions of people in India, essential to curb fraud and ensure that the holder is always aware of the movements linked to their registration.

The Aadhaar mobile application has demonstrated significant growth, surpassing 31 million downloads in just five months since its official launch. This result highlights the rapid adoption of the Indian population to the digital tools offered by the government.

In addition to email updates, the application has also established itself as an indispensable tool for other registration changes. More than 4 million citizens have already updated their cell phone numbers, and approximately one million users have used the platform to correct their home addresses.
