Reports indicate that Samsung’s new Galaxy S27 series, scheduled for launch in early 2027, will feature an innovation in its front camera. The Pro and Ultra variants of the South Korean giant’s high-end smartphones should incorporate a 16 MP sensor, an improvement that aligns with features seen in iPhones, according to a recent leak published by the GalaxyClub portal.
This change already represents a notable evolution, considering that the Ultra models of the last three generations of Samsung’s “S” line were equipped with 12 MP front cameras. However, the big difference expected is not limited to the resolution, but also to the physical design of the component.
The expectation is that the front camera sensor, integrated into the device’s screen, will have a square rather than rectangular shape, which would enable a more comprehensive image capture, ideal for different compositions. It is worth noting that this configuration mirrors the iPhone 17’s front sensor, responsible for Apple’s Center Stage technology, which automatically centers the user.
Such a sensor, with its greater amplitude, would enable the phone’s software to perform automatic framing adjustment. This would ensure that the person or group always remains in the center of the image during video calls or when taking selfies, for example.
The innovation in the S27 Ultra and Pro models would also bring benefits such as the ability to record videos in horizontal orientation, even when the device is held vertically. Additionally, the feature would provide greater space to improve electronic stabilization and optimize the quality of photographs in scenarios with poor lighting.
In addition to improvements to the front camera, Samsung’s future premium smartphones should be equipped with new 50 MP rear sensors. They would be dedicated to telephoto and ultrawide lenses. This high resolution promises to capture photos with superior detail, especially when combined with larger sensors and sophisticated image processing.
The two most advanced models in Samsung’s upcoming cell phone lineup are also expected to include a privacy screen feature. This display, known as “anti-curious”, restricts the viewing of content to anyone who is not directly in front of the device.
