The Royal House of Norway revealed, last Monday (6), the never-before-seen photos of Princess Mette-Marit. These are the first images of the royal after the lung transplant she underwent in mid-June.
The announcement, made on the palace’s digital platforms, shows the princess sitting comfortably in an armchair, next to her husband, Crown Prince Haakon. They were watching the World Cup match between the teams of Norway and Brazil, a game in which the Nordic team emerged victorious and secured their place in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
“Last night made history!”, declared the Norwegian monarchy in its Instagram post, celebrating the moment. Another image shows the royal couple watching through the window the crowd of people that had formed outside, all celebrating their victory.
However, an official representative of the monarchical institution confirmed that the princess has not yet been discharged from hospital and remains under medical care.
Mette-Marit, who is 52 years old, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2018, a condition that led to recent surgical intervention. In a statement issued in June, the palace had reported that the lung transplant she underwent was successful. His recovery takes on even greater significance after a period marked by health difficulties and the impact of complex family and personal events, which makes his public appearance a moment of resilience.
The deterioration of his health occurred in parallel with the legal proceedings involving his son, Marius Borg Hoiby, aged 29. He was sentenced to four years in prison for two counts of rape, in addition to 32 other crimes.
Additionally, Princess Mette-Marit felt the impact of the information released regarding her connection to Jeffrey Epstein, the well-known American sex offender.
