The profound restructuring announced by Microsoft for its Xbox division is already starting to have consequences that go beyond layoffs and relocations of internal teams. A new rumor indicates that the highly anticipated Blade game, developed by Arkane Lyon in collaboration with Marvel, has been put on hiatus, leaving the producer’s future uncertain.

This information came to light shortly after the company formalized a vast reorganization within its games sector. Although Microsoft has not announced the direct cancellation of the project, the situation involving Arkane Lyon generates apprehension among enthusiasts, especially as the studio has begun an analysis process to define its next strategic steps.

In an internal communication sent to the Xbox team by Asha Sharma, CEO of the division, it was confirmed that Arkane Lyon has entered an official consultation period, as required by French legislation. This move aims to explore different paths for the studio, including the possibility of new ownership, but the company did not provide details about the fate of the team or the Blade game itself.

Meanwhile, speculation points to an even more complicated scenario for the project. User @REDACTEDSpider, known for disseminating information from the gaming sector, suggested that development was internally delayed due to exceeding the original budget. The schedule, according to the rumor, will remain suspended until Arkane Lyon finds a new person in charge.

The credibility of this information was reinforced because it was mentioned in an excerpt from Tom Warren’s report for The Verge, which addressed the recent restructuring of Xbox.

It is essential to highlight that these speculations have not been confirmed by either Microsoft or Marvel Games. The only official statement to date is that Arkane is under a “strategic options” review, with no mention of cancellations or changes to its previously disclosed projects.

This atmosphere of uncertainty contrasts with other decisions that Microsoft has already made public during the restructuring process. For example, Compulsion Games, creator of South of Midnight, and Double Fine Productions, responsible for Psychonauts, will return to their status as independent studios, maintaining their intellectual properties and resources to complete their next titles.

Ninja Theory and Undead Labs will have a different path. Both teams will be transferred to new owners, with agreements focused on financing and continued development of Senua and State of Decay 3. According to Microsoft, no first-party titles that had been publicly announced have been canceled as part of this reorganization.

As a result, Marvel’s Blade remains officially in development, but surrounded by great uncertainty. If the rumors are confirmed, the project could remain on hold for an indefinite period of time, awaiting the definition of Arkane Lyon’s future, which would certainly extend the wait even further for one of Marvel’s most anticipated video game adaptations.
