New York authorities carried out a complex rescue operation in the East River. The mobilization occurred after a seaplane made an unexpected emergency landing last Sunday. . Despite the incident, the aircraft managed to land in a controlled manner on the water, in an area between Brooklyn and Manhattan, a stretch known for its intense river and air traffic.
Jessica Tisch, New York police commissioner, shared videos of the rescue action on her X account (formerly Twitter), captured by cameras attached to the uniforms of the officers involved.
The images show a port unit agent on board a patrol boat, interacting with the plane’s occupants.
At another point in the audiovisual recording, it is possible to observe the police officers removing passengers from the aircraft and taking them out of the water.
“You’re doing great. Watch your head,” said one of the officers, as he helped passengers into the patrol boat.
Fire Department teams also provided assistance, helping to remove the eight people who were on board the aircraft. Rescuers confirmed that two of them had only minor injuries and chose not to receive medical attention at the scene.
There is still no clear information about what led to the emergency landing. However, the FAA (Federal Aviation Agency) reported that the incident caused a support rod in one of the plane’s wings to break. After completion of the rescue operation, the aircraft was towed to the pier.
