A 65-year-old man was violently attacked by a bison in Yellowstone National Park, in the United States, on Friday, May 10. Images of the incident were recorded by photographer Mike MacLeod, who observed the animal from a distance and noticed signs of agitation before the confrontation.
The animal’s attack occurred after the victim, who was walking with his grandson and other individuals, approached the bison with the intention of photographing it. This attitude is repeatedly discouraged by park safety regulations aimed at preventing risky encounters with wildlife.

The footage captured the moment other park visitors tried to escape the bison by running through the trees. Then the animal caught up with the 65-year-old man and threw him forcefully into the air.
This Monday, May 13, the elderly man’s family reported that he had to undergo surgery and remains hospitalized in a medical center.
The photographer who recorded the entire scene described the incident in detail and stated that he ran to try to help the man.
“What was supposed to be something fun to watch turned into a critical emergency. I stopped recording because I saw that the bison was on top of him, shaking its head, very aggressive and agitated. And I knew that someone needed to distract that animal”, reported Mike MacLeod about the tense moments.
