On July 15, 2026, Flamengo’s Clube de Regatas rejected an offer valued at 10 million euros (equivalent to R$58 million) for defender João Victor. The young defender, aged 19, was already being observed and is part of the list of possible signings by Grupo City for the next period of negotiations.
The City Group’s strategy involves positioning promising athletes in its subsidiary teams in Europe, aiming for continuous improvement. Even with this declared intention, the proposal made official last week was quickly rejected by Flamengo, which is betting on the player’s development within its own categories and in the main team, indicating the possibility of new investments by the holding company.
João Victor stood out as a starter and received good ratings in the three games he participated in during the recent tour of the team led by Leonardo Jardim in Portugal. The athlete also serves as captain on the Brazilian Under-20 Team, which is scheduled for January 2027, when it will compete in the South American Championship, a qualifying tournament for the category’s World Cup.
This does not represent the first time that Flamengo has declined an offer for the defender. At the end of 2025, the Dutch club Ajax had offered 8 million euros (which corresponded to R$51 million at the time) in a period in which João Victor’s performances in the first team generated uncertainty, due to the few chances. However, the board maintained its position and the response was equally unfavorable.
Formed in the youth teams of Ninho do Urubu and with a long career in the junior teams, João Victor has accumulated a total of 14 appearances for Flamengo’s professional squad.
