A former Rockstar Games producer revealed, this week, the possible reasons for the release of the version of Grand Theft Auto VI for computers to occur after the debut on consoles. While enthusiasts eagerly await the title’s arrival on November 19, 2026, PC players remain in anticipation, without a set date for their version of the game.

The arrival of the next title in Rockstar Games’ acclaimed Grand Theft Auto series is, without a doubt, the most anticipated release of 2026 and possibly in recent years. This scenario leads other game developers and publishers to avoid direct confrontations with the release date of GTA VI.

Although Grand Theft Auto VI has faced delays in its development on a few occasions, a release date of November 19, 2026 appears to be confirmed for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

However, the question that remains is about PC players, as Rockstar Games has yet to make any official announcement regarding a desktop version, even after the initial reveal of GTA VI in December 2023.

John Ricchio, a former Rockstar Games producer who worked at the company from 2003 to 2014 and contributed to titles such as Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3 and Grand Theft Auto V, shared his theory. He suggests that the cause of the possible delay would not be a lack of interest in the vast PC audience, but rather a question of priorities in development for the platform.

In an interview with the Kiwi Talkz channel on YouTube, Ricchio stated that Rockstar Games historically directs its time and budget towards console versions. He justified this practice by citing the development team’s “limited resources”.

Ricchio added that the development process for consoles is generally more streamlined, unlike the complexities found in the PC environment. On computers, the wide variety of hardware configurations on each player system makes the work more challenging than developing for standardized platforms like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Rockstar Games History Shows a Pattern in Computer Release Delays

Over the years, Rockstar Games has routinely released PC versions of its games after the console editions. An example is Grand Theft Auto V, which reached computers approximately 18 months after being released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Red Dead Redemption 2 had its PC version released just over a year after console platforms.

Fortunately, and at least as far as Rockstar Games releases are concerned, the record delay of the original Red Dead Redemption is unlikely to be overcome. Initially released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, the game only reached PC 14 years later.

The game’s official synopsis describes: “Vice City, USA”. The plot features Jason and Lucia, who always knew the odds were against them. After a simple scam goes wrong, the duo finds themselves plunged into the dark side of the sunniest place in America, at the center of a criminal conspiracy that spans the entire state of Leonida. They are forced to rely on each other more than ever to survive.

The expectation is that, after the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026, PC players will only wait between one and, at most, two years for their version.
