Samsung revealed this Tuesday, July 14, its new technology, called Flex Titanium. The South Korean giant describes the novelty as a structural innovation, created to use layers of titanium, with the aim of increasing resistance and minimizing the fold mark on the screens of future foldable devices in the Galaxy line. This feature is expected to be one of the highlights of the company’s next Unpacked event.
- A titanium alloy film positioned under the OLED panel;
- A flexible titanium plate that supports the module at the bottom.
The first of these components, the film, provides impressive mechanical robustness, exceeding the rigidity of conventional polymer films by twenty times. Despite its great resistance, the layer remains remarkably thin, equivalent to approximately one third of a human hair.
The second element, the plate, employs high-precision microperforations in the region where the device folds. This characteristic is essential to ensure that the device withstands numerous opening and closing cycles without its structural integrity being affected.
The integration of these technologies creates a more uniform and flat screen surface, offering greater resistance against external impacts and contributing to a more refined and elegant overall design. According to Sunghoon Moon, corporate executive vice president and head of Mobile R&D Office – Hardware at Samsung Electronics, the company’s main strength in the foldable device category is its ability to connect consumer demands to technologies that generate tangible benefits in everyday life. For the next generation of foldable Galaxy devices, Samsung is capitalizing on its vast experience to create display innovations that optimize the user experience, based on superior viewing quality.
The expectation is that the implementation of Flex Titanium technology will be one of the main attractions of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip. These new models are expected to be formally revealed to the public during the next Galaxy Unpacked event, scheduled to take place in London on July 22nd at 10am.
