X recognizes that algorithm flaw created ‘battlefield’ on the platform
Platform X acknowledged this week that a flaw in its algorithm turned user experience into a virtual “battlefield”. The company’s admission highlights how changes in the way content is displayed have generated a hostile and polarized environment for millions of people who use the social network daily.
The central problem, according to the company itself, was the configuration of the system that favored interactions with unknown people, to the detriment of content shared by profiles that the user followed. This fundamental change distorted the dynamics of the network, resulting in more conflicts and less community engagement, as users were exposed to discussions without the prior context of their own connections.

Why did the change in X’s algorithm generate conflict?
To correct the course, the X platform engineering team implemented a recent adjustment to the algorithm. The goal is to rebalance post delivery, giving greater weight again to direct connections between friends and mutual followers, rather than focusing too much on viral or unknown content that could incite discord.

The expectation is that this review will result in a more pleasant and less confrontational user experience, seeking to restore the sense of community that had been lost. X stated that it monitors the results to ensure that the social network returns to being a space for connection and exchange, and not a constant stage for heated and decontextualized discussions.
