Even with a drop in the ATP rankings, João Fonseca remains among the 30 best in the world
The Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP) released, this Monday, July 20, the most recent update of its world rankings. Brazilian tennis player João Fonseca lost one position, now ranking 28th. Despite the change, Fonseca accumulates 1,710 points and remains solidly among the 30 best athletes on the global circuit, a crucial range for access to the main tournaments.
This decline in the ranking is a direct result of the entity’s routine weekly review. Last week, the 19-year-old young man from Rio only participated in the UTS, an event that, despite being relevant to the exhibition calendar, does not award points for the official ATP classification, directly impacting his count.

Even though he has no commitments on the court this week, the tennis player may experience a new drop, losing up to two additional positions in the next update. This possibility exists if Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech performs well at the ATP 250 in Kitzbühel, or if Chilean Alejandro Tabilo wins the ATP 250 in Estoril title.

Future schedule and in-season challenges
With no official matches scheduled for the rest of July, João Fonseca has already outlined his schedule for the second half of the year. The athlete, under the guidance of coach Guilherme Teixeira, has confirmed his participation in three major competitions on the circuit before defending the Brazilian team in the Davis Cup.
Your journey will begin with the Masters 1000 in Montreal, Canada, scheduled to start on August 2nd. Afterwards, Fonseca will compete in the Cincinnati Masters 1000, starting on August 13th. The series of tournaments on hard courts will conclude with the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year, which will have its main draw starting on August 30th.
Once the series of competitions in North America has concluded, João Fonseca will return to Brazil to represent the Brazilian team in the Davis Cup, an important clash between nations.
