Millions of Social Security beneficiaries in the United States will not have a deposit in August, but the absence of that payment does not mean they will lose the amount owed. The change is part of a change to the regular calendar, causing the August 1st payment to be brought forward to Friday, July 31st.

Payment schedule for the Supplementary Income Benefit is adjusted

The Supplemental Income Benefit (SSI), intended for approximately 7 million low-income seniors, people with disabilities, and blind individuals, is typically credited on the first of each month. Although this occurred on July 1st, the payment scheduled for August 1st was brought forward. In this way, the approximately 7 million SSI beneficiaries will receive their amounts on Friday, July 31st.

Consequently, citizens who rely on SSI will have two deposits into their accounts during the month of July and will not receive any specific payments for August.

The main justification for this change in the schedule is related to the organization of the days of the week on the calendar.

Social Security adopts a policy of not making payments on holidays or weekends. As August 1, 2026 will fall on a Saturday, the values have been rescheduled to the immediately preceding Friday, July 31. The normalization of the calendar will occur in September, as the first day of that month will be a Tuesday, allowing the payment routine to be maintained.
