Samsung announced, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the latest addition to its line of foldable smartphones, introducing an innovative format that resembles a passport. This new model stands out for being lower and wider compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra, both when it is closed and opened. Weighing just 201 grams, it is the lightest Galaxy Fold ever produced by the South Korean brand, incorporating Flex Titanium screen technology to minimize display creases. The device also features a 4,800 mAh silicon-carbon battery and is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor.
The reformulation aims to resolve old criticisms about previous models in the Fold line. Users pointed out the narrow external screen as an obstacle to comfortable navigation and the almost square internal display as inefficient for consuming videos and other multimedia content. In addition to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Samsung also revealed during the Galaxy Unpacked event the Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 foldables, and the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 smartwatches.
Innovative design and user-optimized screen
With a new design, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 offers an improved visual experience. When closed, the device displays a 5.5-inch external screen with an aspect ratio of 10:16. When opened, the internal screen reveals 7.6 inches in a 4:3 format, approaching the experience of a tablet. This lower, wider construction provides greater comfort for everyday tasks on the external screen.

The aspect ratio optimization also allows videos to occupy a larger area of the internal display, eliminating the black bars that were common on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The Z Fold 8 screens reach a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits and combine Vision Booster technology with an anti-glare finish. This set guarantees excellent visibility for reading, even in intense light, with the same visual quality as the most advanced model, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
Lightness and resistance with new internal structure
To achieve reduced thickness without compromising durability, Samsung debuted Flex Titanium technology on the Z Fold 8. This innovation integrates a flexible titanium plate, which supports the screen module from below, and a titanium alloy film under the OLED panel. Together, these components provide a firmer base when the device is open, while also withstanding repeated bending.

The new structural design contributed to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 being just 4.5 mm thick when opened and 9.7 mm when closed. Despite being slightly thicker than the Z Fold 8 Ultra (4.1 and 8.9 mm, respectively), it is significantly thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which clocked in at 5.6 and 12.1 mm. This technology, already used by Chinese manufacturers, is gaining ground in the premium cell phone market due to its ability to store more energy in a smaller space than traditional lithium-ion batteries. In practice, this allows the development of thinner cell phones without compromising autonomy.
In the new Fold, the battery capacity reaches 4,800 mAh, offering, according to Samsung, up to 26 hours of video playback. Although some competitors use capacities of 6,000 mAh or more in their foldable models, the director of Mobile Experience at Samsung Brazil explained that the company prioritized the balance between autonomy, thickness and reliability of the device. He highlighted the engineering work and redesign of the battery, highlighting the necessary caution due to the expansion of the silicon during charging.
The device’s autonomy is further enhanced by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. This customized version of Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line processor delivers performance gains in gaming, multitasking and Artificial Intelligence capabilities, as well as advances in energy efficiency. The cell phone supports 45 W fast charging, capable of recovering 63% of the charge in 30 minutes with the included adapter, and 20 W wireless charging.

AI-Powered Dual Cameras for Content Creators
On the back, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is equipped with a dual set of cameras, consisting of a main sensor and an ultrawide sensor, both 50 MP. One of the main new features is the dual recording format, which allows you to record images simultaneously from the rear and front cameras. This feature is especially useful for content creators who want to capture the scene and your reactions at the same time.
Samsung also expanded Galaxy AI capabilities aimed at photography and video. One of the highlights is My FanCam, which allows the user to select a person so that Artificial Intelligence can automatically follow their movements during recording. This always keeps the focus on the chosen person, eliminating the need for manual edits.
Furthermore, the Smart Photo feature, which had already gained support for prompts since the launch of the Galaxy S26, has been improved. Now, it suggests commands to facilitate generative image editing. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be available in several color options, including black, white and lavender.
