Striker Gabriel Pec suffered a fracture in his left leg, a significant setback in his official debut for Cruzeiro. The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, during the clash against Internacional, valid for the Brazilian Championship, in Beira-Rio. The player was hit by a strong tackle from Victor Gabriel, which resulted in the athlete being expelled from the opposing team, and will now undergo more in-depth examinations to detail the extent of the injury. This situation represents an early impact for the club, which invested heavily in signing Pec, and is now dealing with his absence at the beginning of his journey.
The play that led to the injury happened 13 minutes into the second half. During a ball dispute, Internacional’s defender hit the Celeste shirt’s shin hard. Gabriel Pec immediately fell to the lawn, bleeding from his leg. After receiving medical attention, he had to be replaced, giving way to Bruno Rodrigues.
After the incident, Pec could not even remain on the bench. He needed assistance to be taken to the locker room, where he received the first care, including stitches on his left leg due to the injury.
This match marked the first time that the striker played as a starter for the team. Previously, he had already participated in the training and testing of the Minas Gerais team before the restart of the Brasileirão.
Gabriel Pec was one of Cruzeiro’s two acquisitions in this transfer window. A former Vasco da Gama player, he was at LA Galaxy and his signing cost 12 million dollars, the equivalent of around 60 million reais. The contract signed with the Minas Gerais club lasts for five years.
