A new experimental emulator for PlayStation 5, called SharpEmu, has demonstrated the ability to run the acclaimed game Demon’s Souls, produced by FromSoftware and Bluepoint Games, in its early stages of development. The information was revealed on July 14, 2026, indicating a notable advance in platform emulation.
The team responsible for developing SharpEmu maintains project updates on a collaborative platform, where it also outlines the main focus of the software. The objective is to focus efforts exclusively on emulating the most recent console, leaving titles from previous generations to other existing emulators.
As detailed in the project description, SharpEmu is in its early stages. The creators state that the priority will not be emulating PlayStation 4 games, as ShadPS4 already fulfills this function successfully for the previous generation.
According to the developers, the software was built in the C# language and has the ability to load eboot.bin files, which are from legitimate games. It can also execute native instructions from the PlayStation 5’s CPU and partially manage functions linked to the system’s kernel.
Simply put, SharpEmu acts as a translation layer, allowing a computer’s components, such as the processor and graphics card (GPU), to run the console’s games. This ease is possible because both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 share an architecture similar to that of PCs, a marked contrast compared to the complexity and unique architecture of the PlayStation 3, which made emulation difficult.
