Light Flip bets on minimalist design to combat excess screen time
Light, a company known for its devices focused on minimalism, launched a new foldable cell phone model called Light Flip. The device was designed to offer only the most essential features, eliminating features that could cause distraction, and its announcement took place on July 21, 2026. The main feature of the device, as the name indicates, is its ability to fold, but without the presence of an external screen, emphasizing the proposal of simplicity.
Observers note that the Light Flip’s design is reminiscent of Motorola’s classic Razr V3, but the similarities end in the format. Although the look and functionality of the Light Flip are adapted to current standards, the essence remains that of a simplified device.
When opened, the Light Flip displays a 2.8-inch matte OLED screen. The bottom of the device has a physical numeric keypad, complemented by navigation buttons for ease of use.

On the lower back of the foldable phone, there is a single 50-megapixel camera. Interestingly, the top area, which in other foldable models could house a second screen, only has a star-shaped notification LED.
The new device is equipped with an octa-core MediaTek MT8873 chip, accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.
This hardware configuration, although not cutting-edge, is sufficient to operate the LightOS operating system and its main functions, including internet browser, audio player, phone dialer, contact book and map applications. The goal of Light Flip is to provide a seamless user experience focused on the essentials, contrasting with the increasing complexity of modern smartphones.

The true essence of Light Flip lies in its proposal: to be a phone that delivers only the essential features so that users can avoid distractions caused by social networks, games and other time-consuming applications. This focus on “digital detox” positions the device as a conscious alternative in a world that is increasingly connected and overloaded with information.
The device will come with an SDK (software development kit) that will allow third-party developers to create applications. However, this platform will not have the same scope and complexity as the Android ecosystem, maintaining the minimalist philosophy of LightOS.
The Light company has been operating since 2014 and launched its first cell phone, the Light Phone, in 2017. Since then, the brand has introduced several models designed to reduce digital distractions, with the Light Flip being the most recent addition to this product line.
Light Flip availability and pricing information
Those interested in the Light Flip can now reserve the device on Light’s official website. However, shipments of the devices are scheduled to begin only in April 2027.
The Light Flip’s selling price was set at US$299, which is equivalent to approximately R$1,522 in direct conversion. In the United States, buyers will also have the option of purchasing telephone plans: one with a 1 GB data allowance for US$39 per month, or another plan with unlimited traffic for US$69 per month.
