The main executive of a steel company, with an estimated market value of 3 billion dollars (equivalent to 15.4 billion reais), passed away suddenly and unexpectedly shortly after being appointed president. Brian Malloy, aged 59, had taken over leadership of the company just three weeks ago, on July 1st, making an impact on the sector.
Malloy had been part of Carpenter Technology since 2015, where he previously served as chief operating officer. Upon his death, Tony Thene, the former CEO, immediately resumed management of the company to ensure continuity.
In an official statement, Carpenter Technology expressed its sorrow: “We are deeply saddened by Brian’s passing. Over the past decade, Brian made significant contributions to Carpenter Technology and was a respected leader with a strong commitment to performance, operational excellence and the long-term success of the company.” The company’s note did not detail the cause of death. Malloy was married to Luiza and leaves three children.
The company, which operates in the metal alloy market for the aerospace, medical and defense industries, recorded a drop in the value of its shares following the news of the executive’s death. Previously released information indicated that Carpenter Technology was showing earnings growth, driven by higher military spending in the United States and an increase in new orders.
