Although the National Football League (NFL) season has not yet started, quarterback Justin Herbert already has reason to celebrate with a special “ring”, very different from the championship.
The Los Angeles Chargers athlete confirmed his engagement to renowned singer and songwriter Madison Beer on July 29, 2026. The news was announced in a joint post on the two’s Instagram, accompanied by the phrase “Meet my bride”.
The relationship between Herbert and Beer began to generate speculation in August 2025, when they were seen together behind the scenes of Beer’s music video. The singer’s presence at Chargers games throughout the fall fueled the rumors, which became more concrete with a kiss exchanged on the sidelines before a game against the Washington Commanders, in the fifth week of the NFL. They were also seen together at the Los Angeles Dodgers World Series and supporting the Los Angeles Lakers at the Crypto.com Arena.
Before their engagement, Herbert made a cameo appearance in the music video for Madison Beer’s song “Lovergirl”, released in May as part of the album “Locket Deluxe”.
On his first day of training camp with the Chargers, Herbert was asked which moment made him more apprehensive: the marriage proposal or his NFL starting debut. Without hesitation, he replied, “With the marriage proposal, of course.” Coach Jim Harbaugh expressed his joy for the player and commented on the league’s playoff schedule.
Harbaugh mentioned the date: “Valentine’s Day. SoFi. … The hairs on your arms start to stand up,” he said.
This wasn’t the first time Harbaugh expressed support for the quarterback’s relationship. In May, Herbert skipped the second phase of the voluntary preseason program to accompany Madison Beer on her tour. At the time, when asked about his player’s absence, Harbaugh said he offered: “Do you need a ride to the airport?”
The coach also said at the time that he felt “happy” that Herbert was with Beer on his artistic journey.
The couple’s post on Instagram, officializing their engagement, reached more than 5.7 million likes in just 24 hours. The official NFL account was among the many profiles that sent congratulatory messages in the comments section.
