An unexpected visitor caused a stir at the Hersheypark theme park in Pennsylvania when a juvenile deer was spotted roaming the grounds. The incident highlights the growing challenge that parks and urban areas face with the presence of wild animals, requiring rapid intervention to ensure everyone’s safety.

A recording made by Kimberly Hertz and shared on social media captured the moment Hersheypark staff approached the deer. The images showed the puppy resting peacefully next to a tree, close to a busy path within the leisure complex.

Hersheypark team moves to remove animal

To ensure the animal’s safe removal, park staff carefully covered the deer’s head with a towel before transporting it out of the visitor area. This measure aimed to calm the animal and facilitate its movement without incident.

Hershey Entertainment, responsible for the park, reported in a statement that the deer seen was a wild calf, which appeared to be in dangerous conditions and exhibited atypical behavior near one of the employee-only entrances.

Measures adopted by the park for safety

The company further explained that, immediately after detecting the animal, its team isolated the affected area and carefully removed the deer, keeping it away from visitors. The Pennsylvania Game Commission was then notified and its guidelines were fully followed in managing the incident.
