The Portuguese government announces significant changes to immigration rules, with the aim of making the process of legalizing foreigners more rigorous. These changes directly affect the facilities that many, including Brazilian students, used to obtain residence permits after arriving in the country as tourists.
New measures in Portugal promise to make it more difficult for foreigners to regularize
Currently, travelers can enter Portugal without the need for a prior visa, using tourist status, and subsequently apply for a residence permit while already in the country, through two different routes.
One of these options involves enrolling in a professional course that is officially recognized.
The second alternative allows families to seek residence through minor children, enrolling the child in an educational institution and, from there, requesting the right to housing to ensure the minor’s continued studies.
