SpaceX launches US spy satellite from Florida
A classified reconnaissance mission for the United States government was launched by SpaceX in the early hours of July 30, 2026. The secret operation departed from Florida.
The Falcon 9 rocket took off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, beginning operation NROL-95. This is a commission from the US National Reconnaissance Office (NRO).

Little information has been released about NROL-95 to date. The NRO, which manages the United States’ fleet of spy satellites, did not provide details about the payload or its operations.
The agency revealed only the NROL-95 mission emblem. The badge shows a ferret growling in a night sky, with the phrase “We are the Champions” at the bottom.
In a description of the NROL-95 mission, NRO officials said “the ferret, an intelligent creature, embodies agility and resilience characteristics essential to exploration. Its confident smile and bright eyes reflect a spirit of victory in a realm where determination meets adventure.”

They added that “the bold phrase ‘We are the Champions’ symbolizes the camaraderie and pride shared among those involved in this purposeful mission.”
NROL-95 represents the NRO’s fourth launch in 2026. The three previous missions NROL-105 in January, NROL-172 in May and NROL-179 in June were also carried out by Falcon 9 rockets. However, these launches took place from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

These other three missions aimed to develop the NRO’s “proliferated architecture” constellation. This project aims to form a network of hundreds of smaller and more economical reconnaissance satellites in Earth orbit, offering greater resilience and coverage compared to large systems.
The Falcon 9 first stage returned to Earth for a landing at Cape Canaveral approximately 8.5 minutes after liftoff. This was the seventh flight of this specific propellant, according to information from SpaceX about the mission.
SpaceX’s live broadcast was stopped shortly thereafter at the request of the NRO.
