The Pokémon Trading Card Game organization has introduced a new identity verification system to control product sales and event participation. The measure, which uses the “Digital Authentication App” application developed by Agência Digital, already allows players to register in the Pokémon Trading Card Game Players Club.
The “Digital Authentication App” facilitates authentication and digital signatures, making the process more secure through My Number cards, Japanese individual identification documents. This system emerges as a direct response to the escalation of speculative resale issues affecting Pokémon card releases, aiming to create a fairer purchasing environment for fans and collectors. The official Pokémon Center Online online store will be the first to use the identity verification function in its sweepstakes.
The franchise’s official website confirmed the initiative, stating: “We will use the ‘Digital Authentication App’, provided by Agência Digital, for identity verification. The official online store for Pokémon products, ‘Pokémon Center Online’, plans to start drawings using the identity verification function from August.”
The use of identity verification, centered on My Number cards, is intended to prioritize raffle sales of items commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This includes products such as the “30th CELEBRATION” expansion pack, the “30th CELEBRATION” FUTURISTIC BOX, the “30th CELEBRATION” premium deck, and the “30th CELEBRATION” card set, which contains nine cards. The same mechanism will be applied to registrations for some official tournaments held in Japan.
Pokémon Trading Card Game 30th Anniversary Celebration merchandise will be available to the public in September. The deadline to participate in the draw that uses this new identification system is from 12pm on August 10th to 4:59pm on August 14th.
