Goalkeeper Vozinha, a highlight of the Cape Verde national team, arrived in Chile on the night of August 2, 2026 to join Colo-Colo, in a transfer that lasted longer than expected. The announcement of his signing by the Chilean club had been made on July 24, but the player took a while to travel and even held talks with Berkane, from Morocco, before confirming his decision to join the Chilean team.
Vozinha’s arrival at Santiago airport was marked by a warm welcome, with the presence of a crowd of fans. Colo-Colo currently leads the Chilean Championship with a 12-point advantage over Universidad de Chile, second in the table.

At 40 years old, Vozinha was not linked to any club, having last played for Chaves, in the Portuguese Second Division, in the previous season. Cape Verde, which was making its first appearance at the World Cup, surprised many by managing to advance to the second phase of the competition. In the knockout stage, the African team staged an exciting clash against Argentina, losing 3-2 only in extra time.
However, a specific rule in the Chilean Championship will prevent goalkeeper Josimar Évora Dias from using his nickname, Vozinha, on his shirt. The regulation, established by the ANFP (National Professional Football Association of Chile), prohibits the use of nicknames, requiring the Cape Verdean player to choose one of his surnames to appear on the uniform.
