The feature film “Spider-Man: A New Day” reached the impressive US$1 billion mark in global revenue this August 2026, achieving the feat in a remarkably short period of time since its premiere.

Produced by Sony and Marvel, the film that features Tom Holland as the arachnid hero, reached billions globally in just six days since its arrival in theaters, an extraordinary performance. This agile rate of collection was only surpassed by “Avengers: Endgame”, released in 2019, which achieved the same feat even faster, accumulating US$1.2 billion in its opening weekend.

In North American theaters, “Spider-Man: A New Day” accumulated US$407 million in its first four days, becoming the fastest to cross the US$400 million barrier domestically. The production also set a historic record for Monday’s box office, with US$47 million, surpassing the US$40 million achieved by “Black Panther” in 2018. Its international performance already totals US$645.8 million.

Tom Holland’s fourth solo appearance as Spider-Man has surpassed all grossing projections since its release weekend, totaling US$360 million in the United States and US$932 million worldwide. These impressive figures represent the biggest domestic opening in cinema history and the second biggest worldwide opening of all time. The Spider’s new journey also had the highest grossing in previews, with US$72 million, and the highest opening box office, reaching US$169.8 million. With strong public approval and the absence of major competitors in the coming weeks, “Spider-Man: A New Day” is on track to surpass the US$2 billion mark, a level reached by only seven other films, projecting it among the highest grossing films in history.

“I didn’t expect Endgame’s box office record to be broken, but I’m extremely happy that it was surpassed this past weekend by our 38th MCU film,” said Kevin Feige, producer and president of Marvel Studios. He added that it’s “amazing to find ourselves in this position on a Monday morning — in the best possible sense.”

Marvel plans to capitalize on the success of “Spider-Man: A New Day” with “Avengers: Judgment Day,” which will bring back a team of superheroes and, notably, Robert Downey Jr., this time as antagonist Doctor Doom, in December 2026. Feige said the recent film’s huge performance “bodes excellently” for future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) productions.

“When a shared universe works,” Feige said, “these are the results we see.”

“Spider-Man: A New Day” is the fourth film to surpass the US$1 billion mark in 2026. The other films that reached this level are “Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie” (US$1.001 billion), “Michael” (US$1.001 billion) and “Toy Story 5” (US$1.067 billion). Furthermore, “A Space Odyssey”, directed by Christopher Nolan, has already grossed US$912 million and is close to becoming the fifth billion-dollar success of 2026.

In the month of August 2026, the film industry already records the highest number of films grossing over US$1 billion since the profound transformation caused by the pandemic. In 2019, pre-pandemic period, nine record-breaking productions reached this figure, including “Avengers: Endgame”, “The Lion King”, “Aladdin”, “Joker”, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and “Captain Marvel”. Since then, no year has surpassed the mark of three billion-dollar films, which highlights the sector’s current recovery.

The year 2026 promises to break several box office records. Based on the performance of “Spider-Man: A New Day” and “A Space Odyssey,” Hollywood anticipates this will be the second summer season since COVID-19 to surpass $4 billion in U.S. ticket sales. Until the beginning of August, the period from May to August had already accumulated US$3.579 billion. The sector remains optimistic that, with the arrival of major titles such as “Dune 3” and “Avengers: Judgment Day”, total revenue in the US in 2026 will exceed US$10 billion, something that has not happened since 2019 and which was a common mark before the pandemic, reinforcing the vitality of the film market.
