Attack on Bangkok school leaves 8 dead after student murders grandparents and shoots
A tragic incident occurred at an educational institution in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, on August 7, 2026, when a student started a shooting, resulting in the death of five individuals and leaving many injured. Before heading to school, the young man also took the lives of his two grandparents at his home, according to information from authorities.
After the attack at the school, the student himself committed suicide, bringing the total number of fatalities to eight in this regrettable event.
Police confirmed that all victims at the educational institution were teachers and staff members. In addition, the Thai government reported that 30 people suffered injuries, nine of whom are in serious condition.
The local police commander, Dechrapee Kongdee, reported that the person responsible for the shooting was a 14-year-old teenager, enrolled at the school itself. He committed suicide after the attack.

The police investigation revealed that the young man murdered his grandparents by shooting them at home before going to school. Only after the incident at the school did the authorities notify the elderly people of their deaths, upon discovering the two bodies during an inspection of the residence.
The Royal Thai Police detailed that the incident occurred at Debsirin Nonthaburi High School, located in the Bang Kruai district, in the northwest region of the capital. In 2025, the school had approximately 3,100 students and 147 teachers on its staff.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul mentioned that, according to a close friend questioned by police, the teenager responsible for the attack suffered from “study-related stress” and that the action was “clearly” premeditated. This detail sheds light on possible psychological factors behind the violence.
Careful planning and ongoing investigations
Police forces estimate that the student fired at least 26 shots, using a firearm that belonged to his grandfather. The prime minister reported that the young man still had approximately 30 projectiles in his gun when he shot himself.

The accuracy of the shots was noted, with many hitting the victims’ vital regions, said the head of the national police, General Kittiratt Phanphet. He further stated that the police will further investigate this aspect.
Prime Minister Charnvirakul described the attack as “well-planned” with “clear steps and defined objectives”, indicating a high level of premeditation.
Yodchanan Wongsawat, who serves as Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, announced that a mental health program will be launched soon. He explained that “in terms of care measures, including different forms of support, this will cover both teachers and students”, showing a government concern for the psychological well-being of the school community.
Horror scenario and student evacuation
A person present at the scene told reporters that the students sought refuge inside a room while they heard the sounds of gunshots coming from another building. They remained hidden until police officers arrived, knocked on the door and provided a safe exit route.

The school evacuation was marked by students running outside, injured people being transported to ambulances, and teachers visibly shaken, hugging each other and crying. Images released by rescue teams show one victim on a stretcher outside an ambulance, while another receives care from a rescuer.
An 18-year-old student stated that, at first, he thought the noises were fireworks or someone hitting an object.
He commented: “At first, I didn’t think it was a gun. There were a lot of shots: bang bang bang. Then it was silent. Then it started again.”
A similar incident occurred in February, when a teacher lost her life and a student was injured after a gunman opened fire at a school in Hat Yai district in southern Thailand. This previous event highlights the recurrence of such tragedies in the country.
