Google Wallet introduces dedicated balance for children with parental controls
Google Wallet introduced a new feature in the United States. The functionality allows guardians to establish a protected balance on the platform for children and teenagers under 18 years of age. Using this configuration, young people will be able to make contactless payments using Google Pay on their Android and Wear OS devices. It is important to note that transactions are limited to NFC, making online purchases not possible.

This way, there is no need to provide physical cards or other traditional payment methods to minors, as all management takes place directly through Google Wallet. Parents maintain complete control over the amounts available and their children’s usage history, all supervised through the Family Link platform. This integrated digital management provides greater security and practicality, aligning children’s financial management with existing parental control tools and eliminating concerns about losing physical money or cards.
Those responsible can transfer resources from their own accounts in a simple way and, in the future, schedule periodic automatic transfers. Additionally, it is possible to set spending ceilings and monitor your children’s purchases in real time. In situations of need, there is the option to block or unblock children’s balances immediately.

To start using it, it is essential that your child is under 18 years old, has a supervised Google Account and is part of a Family Group. Only the family administrator can carry out the initial configuration of the child’s balance, either through Google Family Link or the Google Wallet website. Other responsible parties, if any, will also be able to manage the balance. It is essential that the child has the Google Wallet application installed on their Android smartphone or Wear OS smartwatch to use the service.
