The Pokémon Company, working together with GAME FREAK and KOEI TECMO GAMES, has shared exciting news about the future of Pokémon Pokopia. The exclusive urban management simulator for the Nintendo Switch 2 has gained an unprecedented promotional video, called “Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass | Extended Trailer”, which details the simultaneous arrival of the first arc of paid additional content and a free improvement package.

The launch of the “Bubbly Basin” package will occur in line with the arrival of patch 2.0.0, creating a synergy that promises to significantly enrich users’ journeys in the game.

Scheduled to debut on August 5, 2026, the inaugural stage of the Expansion Pass will bring with it the long-awaited version 2.0.0 of the system. Fans need not worry about current progress as all existing save files will be fully compatible with the new adventures.

The extra content schedule was divided into three major updates. The initial phase, focused on the “Bubbly Basin”, introduces an underwater metropolitan ecosystem, accompanied by new monsters and exclusive decorations. The second package, scheduled for the last months of 2026, will focus on cosmetic items, more creatures and furniture, leaving out the addition of new urban maps. The cycle ends in 2027 with the third part, which will finally deliver another complete metropolis, as well as more items and characters. The full package can now be purchased through the console’s virtual store or through the Japanese manufacturer’s official channels.

To dive into the “Bubbling Basin” challenges, the user must fulfill some essential prerequisites: install patch 2.0.0, complete the “Increase the environment level!” challenge. located in the Praia Desolada region and master the unprecedented diving technique.

What changes in gameplay within the new aquatic biome

By accessing the bottom of the sea, virtual builders will be able to build their aquatic metropolis with the help of partners like Popplio and Ditto, solving tasks proposed by local creatures. The underwater environment requires different strategies and brings completely new game systems:

  • Planting watermelons gains prominence in submerged farms, requiring aquatic species, such as Mudkip, to encase the seeds in oxygen bubbles, while allies with the Grow gift help shorten harvesting times.
  • Engineering gains new proportions with floating blocks, tools that enable the assembly of suspended structures at different depth levels, guaranteeing a unique three-dimensional look.
  • The lighting infrastructure and bubble machines depend on energy generated by specific monsters, like Chinchou, who use the Generate ability to keep the city running.

The decoration catalog receives themed additions, even allowing the assembly of a Sharpedo-shaped submarine to function as a private hiding place. Outside the city limits, adventurers can investigate a shadowy cave lit only by bioluminescent corals or use a Starmie doll to gain access to Dream Island, a space focused on multiplayer interaction. The news package also includes new costumes, improvements to Surfing mechanics and the possibility of preparing refreshing vitamins.

Next steps in the paid upgrade schedule

The second stage of the Expansion Pass, which arrives in the final stretch of 2026, focuses on visual customization, delivering outfits that combine the protagonist’s style with that of his teammates. Although it brings a renewed range of furniture and captureable species, this intermediate phase will not expand the map with new cities.

Exclusive rewards for first-time bundle buyers

Those who invest in Pokémon Pokopia’s extra content in advance will be entitled to two special rewards.

The first freebie is a dynamic Ditto-inspired craft project ideal for making custom wallpapers and building blocks. Rescue occurs directly in the title’s expansions menu, just having version 1.1.0 installed and about half an hour of progress in the campaign to release the creation table.

The second advantage guarantees 30 rare Pokémetal bars, delivered via an alphanumeric code sent to the email registered in the player’s account. The promotion covers purchases made until August 31, 2027, with redemption via Mystery Gift released until September 30 of the same year. Activation requires internet access, but does not require a subscription to the platform’s paid online service, remembering that materials can also be mined naturally during gameplay.

New exploration technique revolutionizes game engineering

The arrival of version 2.0.0 implements the long-awaited Diving function, guaranteeing total freedom of movement through the game’s oceans. The legendary Manaphy is responsible for teaching the movement, but he only joins the team after the player advances through the “Bubbling Basin” arc, completes the mission “Increase the level of the environment!” and already have jumping and surfing skills.

With this new capacity for locomotion, the construction of parks and farms on the ocean floor becomes a tangible reality. The system even allows the installation of railways that cross the surface and descend into the depths, facilitating the transport of resources by carts and highlighting how the Nintendo Switch 2’s advanced hardware allows scene transitions without loading screens, something essential for sustainable urbanism at the bottom of the sea.

Seasonal quest focuses on capturing rare creatures

The game’s calendar will host the “Collecting Scales for Feebas” festival, scheduled to take place between 5am on August 13th and 4:59am on August 28th, in the UTC+9 time zone. The community’s goal will be to gather prismatic scales to exchange for marine decorations, which serve as the perfect bait to attract and recruit the coveted Feebas and Milotic to the metropolis.

Access to the temporary event requires that the software is updated to version 2.0.0 and that the player has already completed the reconstruction work at the local Pokémon Center. Furthermore, it is essential that the console’s internal clock is synchronized with the internet, as any divergence in date and time will prevent special missions from being activated.
