Napoli showed interest in Agustín Giay, Palmeiras’ right-back, and began the first contacts to try to negotiate with the Brazilian club.

The Argentine player participated as a substitute in the goalless draw against Internacional, on June 9, 2024, in a Brazilian Championship match played at Allianz Parque. Giay has been on the radar of other Italian football teams before.

History of interest from Italian clubs in Agustín Giay

Before Napoli’s current approach, Agustín Giay had already been monitored by clubs such as Como and Roma, confirming the recognition of his talent in the European market. The Naples team is now looking for an option to strengthen the right flank.

The Italian team is looking for an athlete capable of competing for a place with captain Di Lorenzo and Mazzocchi, who also plays roles on both the right wing and defense on the same side.

At 22 years old, Giay is in his third season at Palmeiras and has a valid contract with the club until September 2030. This long contractual relationship gives Palmeiras a considerable advantage in negotiations in the face of harassment from European teams.

Value of 100 million dollars makes it difficult for Agustín Giay to leave Palmeiras

The Argentine right-back has a release clause of US$100 million, which corresponds to around R$508 million at the current price. This large amount establishes a substantial obstacle to any transfer attempt.

Giay was almost part of the Argentine team at the last World Cup. He was present in preparatory friendlies, but was not included in the definitive list of 26 athletes called up by coach Lionel Scaloni.

In the current season, the full-back has played 29 games for Palmeiras, without registering goals or assists. Since arriving at the club, Giay has already defended the black and white shirt on a total of 90 occasions.
