Honor Robot Phone revolutionizes mobile recording with 200 MP camera and integrated gimbal
Honor presented, in China, the Honor Robot Phone, an Android smartphone that incorporates a 200 MP camera with a motorized gimbal system on its top. The main objective of the innovation is to simplify the production of stable videos for content creators, eliminating the need for additional equipment such as action cameras or external gimbals.
The device combines this motion engine with people tracking capabilities, voice commands and advanced cinema tools. Currently, the launch is restricted to the Chinese market, and the official price has not yet been released.
Details about Robot Phone’s innovative mobile camera system
The device’s gimbal has four degrees of freedom, allowing rotation of up to 300 degrees. This capability allows the rear camera to also be used to capture high-quality selfies. The system can be activated directly through the camera app or through a palm gesture detected by the front camera.
To enable the inclusion of such technology in a cell phone, Honor developed an exclusive micromotor. The company claims that this component, made of titanium alloy, weighs just 2.6 grams and takes up 65% less space compared to conventional gimbals.

The photographic set is robust, including a 200 MP telephoto lens, a 50 MP ultrawide camera and a 50 MP front camera. The user has the flexibility to control the gimbal manually or use predefined movements during recordings for greater precision.
Features that make it easy to create independent content with the device
Built-in mechanical stabilization ensures the image remains smooth and sharp, even when the user is in motion, such as walking. An advanced tracking system always keeps the selected person within the frame, ideal for solo recordings.
This functionality extends to video calls. With a magnetic support that comes with the product, the phone can be placed on a surface, automatically following the person in front of the camera without needing constant adjustments.
- Voice commands to direct the gimbal;
- Intelligent automatic people tracking;
- Rotation capacity of up to 300 degrees;
- Creation of panoramic selfies using three combined images;
- Predefined motions to enhance video production.
The Yoyo assistant and the artificial intelligence of the Honor Robot Phone
The device’s camera gained an unprecedented function with the Yoyo virtual assistant. It can adjust its movements according to the rhythm of a song, simulate different emotions and analyze the environment to help the assistant provide detailed descriptions of its surroundings.

In practice, however, this functionality still has certain limitations, according to initial tests. Yoyo, for example, is not capable of monitoring the assembly of a piece of furniture and alerting you to forgotten steps during the process.
Outside the Chinese market, Honor has traditionally employed the Gemini assistant, developed by Google. A possible international launch of the Robot Phone could open doors for deeper integration with Gemini Live, expanding its capabilities.
Questions about the durability and technical specifications of the smartphone
The presence of an exposed mechanical part at the top of the device naturally raises questions about its long-term durability. Honor, however, claims to have subjected the mechanism to a series of rigorous reliability tests to withstand repeated opening and closing movements. A company spokesperson said the gimbal “has undergone rigorous reliability testing for repeated opening and retracting movements.”
When the camera system is retracted, the device is IP54 certified, indicating protection against dust and splashes. However, this protection is not maintained when the camera is open, which makes recording in rainy environments a risky option for the device.

Regarding specifications, the Robot Phone comes equipped with a 6.31-inch OLED screen with 120 Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, up to 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB of internal storage and a 7,060 mAh battery. Charging is fast, reaching 120W wired and 50W wireless.
Honor has also integrated professional Arri features such as LogC3, Arri Looks and Arri Cinema Mode. This positions the smartphone as a tool that seeks to bring mobile recordings closer to dedicated professional equipment, although the practical usefulness of the gimbal in everyday life can only be confirmed with prolonged use by consumers.
