Insta360 X6 is launched with compact design and improvements in sensors, 8K and battery
Insta360, a renowned manufacturer of action cameras, presented the launch of its new 360-degree camera, the Insta360 X6, available on the market from August 12, 2026. The new model promises innovations with a more compact design, larger sensors and improved 8K video recording performance, accompanied by a longer battery life and more resistant replaceable lenses.
Optimized design and advanced sensors for better imaging
More on this story: Insta360 X6 arrives with compact design and powerful sensors for 8K recording
The new Insta360 X6 arrives with a slightly smaller and lighter body than its predecessors, the X5 and X4 Air. With more compact dimensions, the camera was designed to be easier to transport. The reduction in size has resulted in a 2.32-inch rear touchscreen, which has been upgraded to OLED technology, offering better viewing compared to the X5’s 2.5-inch LCD screen.
The main innovation, according to the company, is Sony’s new 1/1.1-inch square sensors, significantly larger than the X5’s 1/1.28-inch sensors. This change represents a 33% increase in sensor area and four times more light capture per frame, ensuring superior performance in low light conditions. Additionally, the X6 incorporates multiple artificial intelligence chips dedicated to image processing to optimize noise reduction.
Enhanced 8K recording and Dolby Vision support
The Insta360 X6’s video capability reaches a new level, enabling 8K recording at 50 frames per second (fps) when using both cameras for a 360-degree view. This is a notable evolution compared to the 8K at 30 fps offered by the previous model. For those looking for cinematic effects, the camera also offers recording in 6K at 120 fps or 4K at 240 fps in “Bullet Time” mode.
For use as a 2D action camera, the X6 can record with a single sensor, reaching resolutions of up to 5K at 60 fps or 4K at 120 fps. In the field of photography, the update allows you to capture 120 megapixel images in 360 degrees and 42 megapixels when using only one side. An unprecedented feature for 360-degree cameras is the integrated support for Dolby Vision, which ensures the capture and display of HDR images with greater accuracy in brightness and contrast on compatible screens.

Durable lenses and longer battery life
With durability and maintenance cost in mind, the Insta360 X6 maintains replaceable lenses, but with a considerable improvement. The company reported that the new lenses are five times more scratch-resistant and 60% cheaper to replace, an important benefit for action camera users.
Despite the more compact design, Insta360 managed to integrate a 2,600 mAh battery into the X6, higher than the 2,400 mAh in the X5. This extended capacity provides up to 51% more recording time, enabling approximately 140 minutes of 8K footage at 30 fps before a full discharge. For users who need extra autonomy, there is an optional accessory, the X6 Power Selfie Stick, which adds another 180 minutes of use.
Pricing and availability of the new Insta360 camera
