New surveys that classify the best airports and airlines in the world for 2026 have been released, bringing surprises and reaffirmations in the global aviation scenario. AirlineRatings.com’s Skytrax World Airport Awards and World’s Best Airline Awards reveal industry highlights.

The results of these important recognitions are now available and show, once again, a strong dominance of the Asian continent in the main categories, consolidating its leadership position in aerial services and infrastructure.

Among airports, Singapore’s Changi was named Airport of the Year 2026, marking the 14th time it has won the award. This achievement highlights the terminal’s consistency and innovation in offering a superior experience to travelers.

In the airline segment, Qatar Airways was named the Best Full-Service Airline in the World. With this result, the company surpassed Korean Air, which had obtained the title the previous year, in 2025.

A notable absence from the Skytrax airport rankings was Doha Hamad International Airport, which had secured second place overall in 2025. The airport announced, early on March 19, 2026, its withdrawal from external exhibitions and awards programs due to the current situation in the Middle East and the Gulf, a context that explains its non-participation this year.

The top five global airports, according to the survey, are all located in Asia. The list includes Incheon International Airport, in second place; Tokyo International Airport (Haneda), in third; Hong Kong International Airport, in fourth place; and Narita International Airport, in fifth.

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport is European leader for the fourth year in a row

Asian domination also extended to airlines, with Cathay Pacific in second place, Singapore Airlines in third, Korean Air in fourth and STARLUX Airlines in fifth, reinforcing the region’s excellence.

In Europe, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport was the best ranked, reaching sixth position in the overall ranking. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Parisian terminal has remained at the top of the European list.

Other European airports that stood out were Rome Fiumicino Airport, in seventh place; Istanbul Airport, in eighth; and Munich Airport, in ninth place.

Completing the European presence among the 20 best airports, Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (11th), Vienna International Airport (15th), Heathrow Airport in London (16th), Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam (17th) and Zurich Airport (19th) were mentioned.

Among the specific awards, Budapest Airport was recognized as the Best Airport in Eastern Europe, while London Heathrow Airport received the award for Best Airport in the World for Shopping.

Top European airlines in the global assessment

Analyzing the airlines, Turkish Airlines emerged as the best full-service airline in Europe, occupying seventh position in the global ranking.

Following European companies, Virgin Atlantic came in 13th place, followed by KLM in 18th, Air France in 19th and LOT Polish Airlines, which secured 25th position.

AirlineRatings.com also maintains a separate rating for low-cost and hybrid airlines, with the latter defined as offering varying service models depending on flight duration.

In the low-cost segment, AirBaltic was the best European, reaching fourth place in the general ranking of these companies.

The other best-positioned low-cost carriers in Europe include easyJet, in eighth place, Wizz Air, in ninth, and Ryanair, in 11th. The survey also mentioned Jet2 (12th), TUI Group (13th), Norwegian (16th) and Vueling (19th).

Lufthansa was recognized as the highest-ranked hybrid airline this year.

Sharon Petersen, CEO of AirlineRatings.com, said “Lufthansa embodies what we look for in the world’s best hybrid airline.”

The executive detailed that the German airline “offers a low-cost model on short-haul routes across Europe, with paid in-flight service, variable space between seats from 29 to 30 inches, free streaming of in-flight entertainment via the FlyNet Wi-Fi portal, as well as bottled water and the brand’s iconic chocolate.”

She added that the company’s medium and long-range aircraft “offer a comfortable and complete product in economy class and a luxurious experience in business class, especially when traveling in the award-winning Allegris seat.”

Petersen concluded by stating that “combined with efficient and easy connections through important hubs such as Munich and Frankfurt, Lufthansa stands out as the undisputed leader in the hybrid category.”

Other European hybrid airlines that were highly rated include SWISS (seventh), Finnair (eighth), British Airways (ninth), TAP Portugal (tenth), Iberia (eleventh), Air Europa (fifteenth), SAS (sixteenth), Austrian Airlines (eighteenth) and ITA Airways (twentieth).
