Building collapses in São Bernardo do Campo and leaves four injured
A residential building partially collapsed on Rua Jorge Amado, in Jardim Calux, in São Bernardo do Campo, Greater São Paulo, on the morning of August 15, 2026. Four individuals were rescued from the wreckage and promptly treated by rescue teams.
The City of São Bernardo do Campo announced that two of the injured were taken to the Emergency Hospital and two others to the Hospital de Clínicas. Of these, two people have already been discharged. The rest remain under observation, conscious and with a stable clinical condition.
The identified victims include a 37-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl, both of whom were taken to University Hospital. An adult woman received care at the Hospital de Clínicas de São Bernardo do Campo. Another woman, aged 21, was pulled from the rubble with facial trauma.
The Fire Department was called around 6am. The rescue operation involved the use of 13 vehicles and had the collaboration of Samu, Civil Defense, Municipal Civil Guard, Military Police and Traffic Department.

That morning, São Bernardo do Campo and other locations in Greater São Paulo recorded intense rain. However, the exact reason for the collapse remains unknown.
According to information from city hall, the building that collapsed was adjacent to a construction site of the Housing and Urban Development Company of the State of São Paulo (CDHU). The company, known for social housing projects in urban areas, is building nine housing units on site, a project aimed at families with specific needs in the city.
The mayor of São Bernardo do Campo, Marcelo Lima, attended the scene of the incident. He was accompanied by Reinaldo Iapequino, CEO of CDHU, as well as technicians from the municipal administration and the state company.

The city hall also reported that Iapequino stated that all documentation and technical reports on the work, under the supervision of the State Government and CDHU, will be thoroughly examined in the investigation to determine the reasons for the collapse.
Residents are removed from neighboring properties as a precaution
Families residing in properties close to the collapsed structure were removed from the area as a precaution. The evacuated residences will be assessed by Civil Defense to check for possible damage.
Social service teams from the City Hall Housing Department were mobilized to register affected families and direct them to temporary shelters.
