Two big news related to Square Enix were revealed during the Disney D23 2026 event, on August 15, 2026. Among them, the anime adaptation of the Kingdom Hearts series stands out, which will be broadcast on the Disney+ streaming service and also on the Disney Channel television channel. The production, awaited by fans and potential new audiences, does not yet have a defined release date, with the forecast only being “soon”. This new feature expands the franchise’s universe beyond the games and manga adaptations, which have already portrayed events from several titles in the acclaimed Japanese RPG series. The initiative has the potential to attract a wider audience and further solidify the saga’s fan base.
A first glimpse of the Kingdom Hearts animated series was presented at the event, and the image soon circulated on social media. In it, you can see a character from behind, holding a Keyblade in his right hand, resting on his shoulder. Attentive observers on the internet quickly noticed that the character’s clothing resembled that of Helgi, a central figure in the game and narrative of Kingdom Hearts Dark Road.
Although this is the first time that an anime adaptation of Kingdom Hearts has been announced, the franchise already has several manga versions. These publications extensively covered the games’ stories, including events from the second and even third title in the main series.
Another relevant point disclosed at Disney D23 involved the future of the game series. Kingdom Hearts 4, the next chapter in the saga, is scheduled to be released at the end of 2027 and will bring a new world inspired by the acclaimed film “Coco”.
