The long wait for a historic result at Koshien

The Japanese High School Baseball Championship is one of Japan’s most prestigious and traditional sporting competitions, attracting widespread national attention. For Kenta Takasaki’s team, achieving a place in the quarterfinals after more than a decade represents a moment of great celebration and recognition. The feat equals the team’s previous record in the competition, highlighting the resilience and joint work to overcome a long period without significant progress.

Coach Hirofumi Aoyagi’s words about the victory

After the game, Kenta Takasaki’s coach Hirofumi Aoyagi expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. He said he was very happy, as “we hadn’t managed to win in the summer for some time”, highlighting the difficulty and rarity of a triumph at this time of year.

Aoyagi also commented on the decision to field the freshman pitcher, praising his good control and courage on the field. He said that the player gave his best, and the fact that he kept the score at zero in the first inning was a crucial point in the victory. The coach also highlighted the team’s tenacity in attack, which managed to make the opposing pitcher throw a lot of balls and get some fouls, maintaining the pressure until the final innings.

Despite the joy, Aoyagi pointed out areas for improvement. He mentioned the occurrence of many bases due to pitchers’ balls and errors in the attack, which failed to get hits in decisive moments. The coach, however, believes that the hit against Suzuki from the opposing team will bring confidence to the team. He reinforced the desire to practice batting more carefully so that the team is fully ready for the next challenge.
