Disney and Square Enix released a new detailed trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 during the “Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts” panel at D23. The screening revealed, for the first time, King Mickey, Donald Duck and Goofy in action as playable characters.
Sora’s previous appearance in the “Viva – A Vida é uma Festa” universe with his Keyblade during the Disney Entertainment Showcase had already taken many by surprise. However, the reveal of Mickey, Donald Duck and Goofy as controllable figures in this recent four-minute video has intensified fan enthusiasm.
The game dynamics involving Goofy and Donald seem to maintain the already known essence of Sora’s movements. In addition to a segment where Disney characters sled through a dark environment, they are shown using joint abilities to face Heartless enemies.
King Mickey, in turn, received particular attention. The initial trailer shows you in a third-person view, switching to an origami-style look, mixing two-dimensional and three-dimensional gameplay elements. This aesthetic appears to be heavily inspired by Nintendo’s “Paper Mario”, but the duration of these stages has not yet been confirmed.
In the final moments of the recording, another revelation awaited the public: the presence of Riku. Despite his brief appearance, the expectation is that he will join Sora at some point in the narrative of Kingdom Hearts 4.
During the same event, the creator of the saga, Tetsuya Nomura, denied rumors that suggested a possible delay in the game’s launch beyond the initial forecast of 2027.
Kingdom Hearts 4 continues with a release date scheduled for the end of 2027, with versions confirmed for PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S.
