The watchOS 27 operating system is about to be available in a few weeks, bringing with it significant new features and improved features for the Apple Watch. The updates were subjected to rigorous testing for over a month in the public beta.
Discover the new Dynamic App Grid on the smart watch
The main change in watchOS 27 includes a new application navigation screen, called Dynamic App Grid, which will appear whenever the user interacts with the Apple Watch.
Previously, to open an app, you had to press the Digital Crown and select the app through List View or Grid View, a process that could be considered a bit time-consuming.

With the implementation of watchOS 27, users will initially be directed to the Dynamic App Grid, which provides fast access to the most used applications. An icon at the bottom of the screen will allow access to the full app panel, whether in Grid or List View.
In essence, the functionality aims to simplify and speed up access to programs that the user activates more regularly.
How Search becomes unified and improved
For the first time, Apple Watch will incorporate a unified Search app. Previously, there were three separate applications for this function: Search Devices, Search Items and Search People. With watchOS 27, all of them have been brought together in a single Search app, mirroring the version available on the iPhone.
Additionally, the new Search app on Apple’s watch will enable the use of Precise Search, making it easier to find newer devices, such as iPhones, AirPods Pro 3 and second-generation AirTags, directly from your wrist.

Both iOS 27 and watchOS 27 bring a smarter method of location tracking via Find My for Apple Watch users. If the iPhone is left at home and the user is using the smart watch, Find My will be able to recognize this situation and will start sharing the Apple Watch’s location.
Although it is a seemingly simple update, it is of great importance as it provides people with whom the location is shared with a more accurate way of tracking.
Discover proactive notifications that prolong battery life
watchOS 27 also introduces a new power-saving feature, Proactive Battery Extension Notifications. This system works in the background, monitoring Apple Watch usage and identifying underused features. It then automatically disables them to help extend your device’s battery life.
Among the features that can be managed is “Raise to Speak”, a gesture that activates Siri when you bring the Apple Watch closer to your mouth. Workout reminders are also an example, offering the option to start a physical activity at specific times based on usage history and previous training data.
If the user regularly uses functions such as “Stand to Talk” or “Start Workout” reminders, the Apple Watch will keep them active. However, if these features are not employed, a “battery extension” notification will be issued informing you of a feature being disabled. The user will then have the option to keep it on, if desired.
