On August 31, 2026, Liverpool rejected an offer of 75 million euros, equivalent to around R$561 million, presented by Manchester City to sign striker Cody Gakpo. The proposal was rejected by Reds directors.

Despite the initial refusal, Manchester City’s move does not indicate a complete closing of the doors to the Dutch player’s departure. Gakpo continues to be considered a negotiable piece by the club, and the recent acquisition of Bradley Barcola could have a significant impact on upcoming decisions regarding the athlete’s future.

French striker Bradley Barcola was acquired by Liverpool from Paris Saint-Germain for £123 million, approximately R$862 million. He has the ability to play in the same position as the Dutchman, intensifying the competition in the squad.

In addition to Manchester City, another English team is also monitoring Gakpo’s situation. Tottenham are among the clubs interested in the striker, which could increase speculation about his fate as the transfer window approaches its close.

Since arriving at Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, Cody Gakpo has played in 182 matches and scored 51 goals in all competitions. In 2025, the Dutch player extended his contract with the Reds, signing a new contract for another five seasons.
